Description
These crispy and delicious Air Fryer Fish Sticks are a healthier alternative to traditional fried fish sticks. Made with tender codfish coated in a flavorful mixture of panko breadcrumbs, parmesan cheese, and dried oregano, they are easy to prepare and perfect for a quick meal. The air fryer gives them a golden, crunchy exterior without the need for excessive oil.
Ingredients
Scale
Fish Sticks
- 8.9 ounces codfish (skinless and boneless)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Breading Mixture
- 2 eggs
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup parmesan cheese (shredded)
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
Cooking
- Spray oil (for spraying before air frying)
Instructions
- Slice the Fish: Begin by cutting the codfish into ‘fish-stick’ sized pieces, arranging them on a chopping board for easy handling.
- Season the Fish: Sprinkle the pieces evenly with 1/4 teaspoon of salt to enhance the flavor.
- Prepare the Mixtures: In the first mixing bowl, whisk together the 2 eggs and 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour until fully combined. In the second bowl, mix together the panko breadcrumbs, shredded parmesan cheese, and 1 teaspoon dried oregano.
- Coat the Fish: Dip each fish piece first into the egg and flour mixture, then into the breadcrumb mixture, ensuring each piece is thoroughly coated on all sides. Set the coated pieces aside.
- Air Fry the Fish Sticks: Place the coated fish sticks into the air fryer basket in a single layer. Lightly spray the tops with spray oil. Set the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) and cook for 15 minutes, turning the fish sticks over at the 7-minute mark for even cooking.
- Serve: Once cooked to a golden crisp, remove the fish sticks from the air fryer and serve immediately while hot and crispy.
Notes
- Ensure the fish pieces are cut evenly for consistent cooking.
- You can substitute codfish with other white fish like haddock or pollock if preferred.
- Use a thin layer of spray oil to keep the fish sticks crispy without adding excess fat.
- Turning the fish sticks halfway through cooking helps them cook evenly and become crispy on all sides.
- Serve with tartar sauce, lemon wedges, or your favorite dipping sauce for extra flavor.
