Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 240g (2 cups) all-purpose flour
- 5g (1 tsp) baking soda
- 5g (1 tsp) ground cinnamon
- 2g (½ tsp) ground nutmeg
- 2g (½ tsp) salt
Wet Ingredients
- 3 large eggs
- 180g (1 cup) granulated sugar
- 120ml (½ cup) vegetable oil
- 10ml (2 tsp) vanilla extract
Additional Ingredients
- 2 large apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
- 100g (½ cup) chopped walnuts (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan to prevent sticking.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and salt. Set this mixture aside.
- Combine Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk the eggs, granulated sugar, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract together until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
- Incorporate Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring gently until just combined to avoid overmixing, which can toughen the cake.
- Add Apples and Walnuts: Fold in the chopped apples and walnuts (if using), making sure they are evenly distributed throughout the batter for consistent flavor and texture.
- Transfer Batter to Pan: Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread it out evenly for uniform baking.
- Bake the Cake: Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, indicating the cake is fully cooked.
- Cool the Cake: Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes to set, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before serving.
- Serve and Enjoy: Serve the cake plain or optionally top with a caramel glaze or frosting for added sweetness and presentation.
Notes
- Make sure not to overmix the batter once the dry ingredients are added to keep the cake tender.
- Using fresh apples is important for the best texture and flavor; Granny Smith or Fuji apples work well.
- Walnuts add a nice crunch but can be omitted for nut-free versions.
- This cake can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
- To make it extra special, try serving with whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
