Description
These Asparagus Crescent Rolls are a delightful appetizer combining fresh asparagus, prosciutto, and a blend of cheeses wrapped in flaky crescent dough. They bake to golden perfection, offering a savory, cheesy twist that’s perfect for parties or a fancy snack.
Ingredients
Scale
Dough and Cheese Mixture
- 4 ounces refrigerated crescent roll dough (½ tube)
- 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 teaspoons seasoning salt
Filling
- 8 asparagus spears (fresh, if possible)
- 4 slices prosciutto (optional)
- ½ cup freshly shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Dough: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier. Open the crescent roll tube and slice each triangle in half lengthwise, creating thinner strips for wrapping.
- Prepare Cheese Coating: In a small bowl, combine the freshly grated Parmesan cheese and seasoning salt. Generously coat both sides of each crescent dough strip with this cheese mixture to add rich flavor and seasoning.
- Assemble Rolls: If using prosciutto, place one slice over each coated crescent roll strip. Place a fresh asparagus spear on top, then wrap the dough around the asparagus and prosciutto by starting at the tip of the dough and spiraling down, securing the filling tightly within the roll.
- Top and Bake: Arrange the wrapped asparagus bundles on the prepared baking sheet. Sprinkle the remaining Parmesan cheese mixture and freshly shredded mozzarella cheese over the tops for a melty, golden finish. Bake in the preheated oven for 13-15 minutes, or until the crescent dough is golden brown and cooked through.
- Serve: Remove from oven, let cool briefly, then serve warm as a delicious and elegant appetizer or snack.
Notes
- For best results, use fresh asparagus spears trimmed to fit inside the crescent dough.
- Prosciutto is optional but adds a nice savory depth to the rolls; omit for a vegetarian version.
- You can substitute seasoning salt with garlic powder or Italian seasoning for a different flavor profile.
- Make sure to not overwrap the asparagus so the dough cooks evenly.
- Serve immediately for the best texture; leftovers can be reheated but may lose crispiness.
