Bread and Butter
- 8 slices of sourdough bread
- 1 tablespoon butter (softened)
Blackberry Balsamic Jam
- 1 cup fresh blackberries
- 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
- 2 teaspoons honey
Cheese and Garnish
- 6 oz brie cheese (rind removed, sliced)
- Fresh thyme leaves (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Make the Blackberry Balsamic Jam: In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the fresh blackberries, balsamic vinegar, and honey. Cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the blackberries break down and the mixture thickens to a jam-like consistency. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
- Prepare the Bread: Butter one side of each slice of sourdough bread. Lay four slices butter-side down on a clean surface to assemble the sandwiches.
- Assemble the Sandwiches: On the unbuttered side of the four bread slices, layer slices of brie cheese evenly, then spoon generous portions of the blackberry balsamic jam over the cheese. Top each with the remaining bread slices, butter-side up.
- Grill the Sandwiches: Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat. Place the sandwiches in the skillet and grill for 3–4 minutes per side, pressing lightly with a spatula, until the bread is golden brown and crispy and the brie is melted.
- Serve: Remove the sandwiches from heat. Slice each in half diagonally and garnish with fresh thyme leaves if desired. Serve warm for the best flavor and texture.
