Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 16 ounces package Bisquick (gluten free if needed)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder (divided)
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning (or dried basil)
Wet Ingredients
- 1 ¼ cup whole milk (buttermilk, or a full-fat plant-based alternative)
- 2 large eggs (whisked)
- ½ cup butter (salted, divided)
Cheese
- 1 cup Cheddar cheese (finely shredded)
Instructions
- Make the Batter: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large bowl, combine the Bisquick, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, and salt. Whisk these dry ingredients together until evenly mixed. Add the milk, whisked eggs, and 4 tablespoons of melted butter cooled to room temperature. Gently stir with a spatula until a soft dough forms. Fold in the finely shredded Cheddar cheese just until combined, being careful not to overmix.
- Scoop and Bake: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Using a ¼-cup measuring cup, scoop out portions of the biscuit batter and place them evenly spaced on the baking sheet. You should get about 12 biscuits. Bake in the preheated oven for 14 to 16 minutes, or until the edges turn lightly golden brown.
- Make Butter Topping: While the biscuits bake, melt the remaining 4 tablespoons of butter in a small bowl using the microwave. Stir in the remaining ½ teaspoon garlic powder and the Italian seasoning until well combined.
- Top with Butter and Serve: As soon as the biscuits come out of the oven, use a pastry brush to generously coat them with the garlic butter mixture. For an extra touch, sprinkle with finely chopped fresh parsley if desired. Serve warm and enjoy immediately.
Notes
- Use gluten-free Bisquick if you need a gluten-free version.
- Buttermilk can be substituted with whole milk or a full-fat plant-based milk alternative.
- Do not overmix the dough to keep the biscuits tender and fluffy.
- For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of cayenne pepper into the butter topping.
- These biscuits are best served fresh but can be reheated gently in the oven.
