Main Ingredients
- 1/4 cup tahini, hulled
- 2 1/2 – 3 tbsp water
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1/2 garlic clove, pressed through garlic crusher or grated
- 1/4 tsp cooking salt or kosher salt
- 1/4 tsp white pepper (substitute with black pepper if necessary)
- 1 1/2 tsp honey, optional
- 1/4 cup flaked almonds, pine nuts, or pistachios, toasted
Instructions
- Mix Ingredients: Combine tahini, water, lemon juice, pressed garlic, salt, white pepper, and honey (if using) in a bowl. Stir well until all ingredients are smoothly incorporated into a loose, drizzly consistency.
- Rest and Meld Flavors: Let the mixture sit for 15 minutes at room temperature to allow the flavors to blend harmoniously.
- Add Toasted Nuts: Just before serving, sprinkle the toasted flaked almonds, pine nuts, or pistachios on top of the tahini sauce to add texture and nutty flavor.
Notes
- Use hulled tahini for a smoother texture and less bitterness.
- Adjust water quantity to achieve desired sauce consistency.
- Fresh lemon juice is preferred for bright flavor.
- If white pepper is unavailable, black pepper can be used as a substitute.
- Honey is optional but adds a nice subtle sweetness balancing the tang and bitterness.
- Toast nuts lightly to enhance their flavor and crunch.
