Ingredients
Scale
For the Potato Torte:
- 4 medium-sized potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
- 2 tsp fresh thyme, chopped
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp butter (for greasing)
For the Balsamic Glaze:
- ½ cup balsamic vinegar
- ½ cup olive oil
- 2 tbsp lemon juice (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Potato Torte: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a round baking dish with butter and set aside.
- Make the glaze: In a small bowl, mix olive oil, balsamic vinegar, garlic, fresh thyme, salt, and pepper to create the balsamic glaze.
- Toss the potatoes: In a large bowl, add the thinly sliced potatoes and toss them thoroughly in the balsamic glaze mixture until evenly coated.
- Layer the potatoes: Arrange the potatoes in a spiral pattern in the prepared baking dish, making sure to slightly overlap each slice. Firmly press the layers down as you layer.
- Top with cheese: If using Parmesan cheese, sprinkle it evenly on top of the layered potatoes to add a crispy, cheesy crust.
- Bake: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 40 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 20 minutes until the top is golden and crispy.
- Cool and serve: Allow the torte to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving for best texture and flavor.
Notes
- Make sure the potatoes are sliced thinly and evenly to ensure uniform cooking.
- If you prefer a stronger balsamic flavor, you can increase the balsamic vinegar slightly in the glaze.
- The Parmesan cheese topping is optional but adds a lovely golden crust and depth of flavor.
- Letting the torte rest before serving helps it to set and makes slicing easier.
- This dish can be made ahead of time and reheated in the oven to maintain crispiness.
