Description

These Crispy Funnel Cake Sticks are a delightful twist on traditional funnel cakes, featuring a light, airy batter fried until golden brown and dusted with powdered sugar. Perfect for a carnival-inspired treat, they’re easy to make at home and serve as a fun finger food dessert.

Ingredients

Scale

Batter

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

For Frying and Serving

  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  2. Combine wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, beat one egg thoroughly. Add the milk and vanilla extract to the egg and mix well.
  3. Make the batter: Gradually pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, whisking continuously until the batter is smooth and free of lumps.
  4. Heat the oil: Pour about 2 inches of vegetable oil into a deep skillet or pot. Heat over medium until the oil reaches 350°F (175°C), ensuring it is hot enough for frying.
  5. Piping the batter: Transfer the batter into a piping bag or squeeze bottle fitted with a large round tip to control the flow of batter.
  6. Fry the sticks: Carefully pipe 4- to 6-inch lines of batter into the hot oil, working in small batches to prevent overcrowding. Fry each batter stick for 2 to 3 minutes per side or until they turn golden brown and crispy.
  7. Drain and serve: Using a slotted spoon, remove the cooked sticks from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. While still warm, dust generously with powdered sugar and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For an extra indulgent touch, serve with dipping sauces like chocolate, caramel, or strawberry sauce.
  • Alternatively, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar instead of powdered sugar for a different flavor.
