Ingredients
Scale
Meat
- 16 ounce Package of Polska Kielbasa
Beans and Vegetables
- 4 cans Pork n beans (14 – 17 ounce cans)
- 1 small sweet Onion, chopped
- 1 teaspoon Minced Garlic
Seasonings and Sauces
- 1 cup Brown Sugar
- 1 teaspoon Coarse Ground Garlic Salt
- 1 Tablespoon Dry Ground Mustard
- 3 Tablespoons Black Strap Molasses
- 1/2 cup Ketchup
Instructions
- Prepare the Kielbasa: Place the lid on the Crock Pot and turn it on to High heat. Open the package of Polska Kielbasa, slice into round pieces, and arrange the slices evenly at the bottom of the Crock Pot.
- Initial Cooking of Kielbasa: Allow the kielbasa slices to cook in the Crock Pot on high for about 45 minutes. After 45 minutes, turn the slices over and let cook for an additional 15 minutes to lightly brown and release flavors.
- Add Remaining Ingredients: Add the pork n beans, chopped onion, minced garlic, brown sugar, coarse ground garlic salt, dry ground mustard, black strap molasses, and ketchup to the Crock Pot. Stir well, making sure to evenly combine the kielbasa with the beans and seasonings.
- Slow Cook the Dish: Continue cooking on high heat until the mixture is bubbling and heated through, approximately 4 to 5 hours. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking and ensure even cooking.
- Final Warming: After the initial high-heat cooking, reduce the heat to low or set to keep warm. Stir occasionally until ready to serve, allowing the flavors to meld further.
- Serve: Spoon the kielbasa and beans into serving dishes and enjoy this comforting, hearty meal.
Notes
- Using a slow cooker allows for hands-off, gradual melding of flavors making the dish rich and tender.
- The black strap molasses adds a deep, slightly smoky sweetness, enhancing the savory kielbasa and beans.
- Adjust the brown sugar amount to taste if you prefer a less sweet dish.
- For a spicier version, consider adding a pinch of cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated and often taste even better the next day after flavors have further developed.
