Ingredients
						Scale

			For the Patties
- 1 lb lean ground beef (80/20)
 - Salt and pepper to taste

For the Sandwich
- 4 slices Swiss or American cheese
 - 1 large sweet onion, sliced
 - 4 slices rye or sourdough bread
 - 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Instructions
- Season and form patties: In a bowl, season the ground beef with salt and pepper. Form the mixture into four evenly sized patties.
 - Caramelize onions: Heat a skillet over medium heat and add the sliced onions. Cook, stirring occasionally, until they are golden brown and caramelized, approximately 8-10 minutes.
 - Cook the patties: Increase the heat to medium-high. Place the patties in the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side until fully cooked through and browned.
 - Assemble sandwiches: Place one cooked beef patty on a slice of bread. Top with a generous amount of caramelized onions, then add a slice of cheese. Cover with another slice of bread to form a sandwich.
 - Grill the sandwiches: Butter both sides of each assembled sandwich. Return to the skillet and grill over medium heat until the bread is golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side, and the cheese is melted.
 - Serve: Remove the sandwiches from the skillet and slice in half for easier handling. Serve hot and enjoy.
