Ingredients
Scale
Apple Filling
- 1 apple, peeled and finely diced
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
Wontons
- Wonton wrappers, as needed
- 2 tablespoons caramel sauce (plus extra for drizzling)
- Water, for sealing edges
Toppings
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
- Whipped cream or ice cream (optional)
Instructions
- Cook the apple filling: In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the finely diced apple, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Stir occasionally and cook until the apples are tender and fully coated with the mixture, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and let the filling cool completely.
- Assemble wontons: Lay out the wonton wrappers on a clean surface. Place a spoonful of the cooled apple filling in the center of each wrapper, drizzle a small amount of caramel sauce over the filling. Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water, then fold into a triangle or pouch shape. Press edges firmly to seal tightly ensuring no gaps.
- Preheat and air fry: Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C). Lightly brush or spray the wontons with oil to promote crispiness. Arrange them in a single layer in the air fryer basket without overlapping.
- Cook wontons: Air fry for 6-8 minutes, turning halfway through if necessary, until the wontons are golden brown and crispy.
- Serve and garnish: Remove the wontons from the air fryer and place on a serving plate. Dust with powdered sugar and drizzle additional caramel sauce on top. Add whipped cream or ice cream on the side if desired for an extra indulgence.
Notes
- Make sure the apple filling is completely cooled before assembling to prevent the wontons from becoming soggy.
- You can use any variety of apple, but sweeter apples like Fuji or Gala work best.
- If you don’t have caramel sauce, melted caramel candies or dulce de leche can be a good substitute.
- Store leftover wontons in an airtight container and reheat in the air fryer at 350°F for 3-4 minutes for best texture.
- For a vegan version, substitute butter with plant-based margarine and use vegan caramel sauce.
