Description

These Easy Bumble Bee Cookies are a fun and delightful no-bake treat combining Oreo cookies dipped in yellow candy melts with black candy details, pretzel wings, and candy eyeballs to create adorable bee-licious snacks perfect for parties or kids’ lunches.

Ingredients

Scale

Cookies and Coatings

  • 1 (15.35 ounce) package Oreo Cookies
  • 2 (12 ounce) bags yellow candy melts
  • 1 (12 ounce) bag black candy melts

Decorations

  • 1 bag miniature pretzel twists (2 mini pretzels per cookie)
  • Candy eyeballs (2 eyes per cookie)
  • Optional: coconut oil or vegetable shortening (up to 1 tablespoon per bag of candy melts to thin coatings)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the workspace: Line a baking sheet with waxed paper to allow the cookies to set without sticking.
  2. Melt black candy coating: Melt the black candy melts according to package directions. If the melted candy is too thick to pour, add 1 teaspoon of coconut oil or vegetable shortening and stir well, avoiding water. This will thin the candy for easier coating and piping.
  3. Dip pretzels in black candy: Dip each miniature pretzel twist into the melted black candy coating. Let excess coating drain off, then place pretzels onto the waxed paper and allow to set completely. These will become the bee wings.
  4. Melt yellow candy coating: Melt the yellow candy melts as directed on the package. Add 1 teaspoon of coconut oil or vegetable shortening if needed to thin. Stir well.
  5. Dip Oreo cookies: Dip each Oreo cookie into the melted yellow candy coating, tapping gently against the bowl’s edge to remove excess. Pop any air bubbles with a toothpick. Place dipped cookies on waxed paper and allow to set completely. Refrigerate or freeze briefly to speed setting if desired.
  6. Create black stripes: Transfer some melted black candy coating into a piping bag or a plastic zip-top freezer bag with a small corner cut off. Pipe solid black lines horizontally across the yellow-coated cookies to mimic bumble bee stripes. Allow stripes to set.
  7. Assemble bumble bee: Pair pretzel wings and arrange them on the back center of each cookie. Use about ½ teaspoon of melted black candy to glue the wings in place. Similarly, dot black candy on the back of each candy eyeball and press two eyes onto the front edge of the cookie.
  8. Final setting and storage: Allow the completed cookies to set fully at room temperature or refrigerate for quicker setting. Store the bumble bee cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to several days.

Notes

  • Melting candy coatings too thick can be thinned with small amounts of coconut oil or vegetable shortening—do not add water.
  • Use a toothpick to pop air bubbles in candy coating for smooth surfaces.
  • Setting dipped cookies in the refrigerator or freezer speeds up the hardening process.
  • Store cookies in a single layer to avoid sticking or damage to the decorations.
  • For a fun variation, use different colored candy melts for different themed bees or other insects.
