Description

These Monte Cristo Sliders are a delicious and easy-to-make twist on the classic sandwich, featuring layers of ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese on soft Hawaiian rolls, baked to golden perfection and topped with a sweet powdered sugar glaze. Perfect for parties, game days, or a tasty snack, served with raspberry or strawberry jam for dipping.

Ingredients

Scale

Sandwich Ingredients

  • 12 Hawaiian rolls
  • 12 slices deli-sliced ham
  • 12 slices deli-sliced turkey
  • 12 slices deli-sliced Swiss cheese

Butter Coating

  • 1/3 cup (76 g) salted butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

Garnish & Serving

  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar
  • Raspberry or strawberry jam, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C). Spray a 9×13 inch baking pan with non-stick spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare Rolls: Without separating the rolls, slice the entire package in half horizontally. Place the bottom halves into the prepared baking pan.
  3. Assemble Sandwich Layers: Place half of the Swiss cheese slices evenly over the bottom rolls. Layer all the ham slices next, followed by all the turkey slices, and then the remaining Swiss cheese slices. Finally, place the upper halves of the rolls on top.
  4. Make Butter Mixture and Brush: In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, egg, and pepper until fully combined. Using a pastry brush, evenly coat the tops of the rolls with this butter mixture.
  5. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 25 minutes, or until the cheese is thoroughly melted and the tops are toasted golden brown. If the buns brown too quickly, tent loosely with aluminum foil to prevent burning.
  6. Finish and Serve: Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle the tops with powdered sugar. Serve warm, optionally with raspberry or strawberry jam on the side for dipping.

Notes

  • For less mess, keep the rolls attached while slicing and assembling.
  • If you prefer a crispier top, broil briefly at the end but watch carefully to avoid burning.
  • Substitute Swiss cheese with Gruyère or mozzarella for a different flavor profile.
  • These sliders can be made ahead, assembled, and refrigerated until ready to bake.
  • Use low-sodium deli meats to reduce salt content if desired.
