Ingredients
Scale
Salmon and Seasoning
- 1 (2-pound) whole salmon fillet (skin-on preferred)
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1 teaspoon ground paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ¾ teaspoon salt
- Ground black pepper (to taste)
Garlic Butter Mixture
- 3 tablespoons melted butter (OR olive oil)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
Instructions
- Prep: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lay a large piece of aluminum foil on a rimmed baking sheet, then place the salmon fillet on the foil with the skin side down and the pink side facing up. Carefully crimp the edges of the foil around the salmon to create a small “boat” that will keep the juices contained during baking.
- Season: In a small bowl, mix the melted butter with the minced garlic. Brush about half of this garlic butter mixture evenly over the salmon fillet. In another small bowl, combine the brown sugar, Italian seasoning, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and ground black pepper. Sprinkle this seasoning blend evenly over the salmon. Finally, drizzle the remaining garlic butter mixture over the top to enhance flavor and moisture.
- Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake the salmon for 15 to 22 minutes, depending on your preferred level of doneness. If desired, baste the salmon with its own juices halfway through cooking to keep it moist. Once baked to your liking, remove the salmon from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes before serving to allow the juices to redistribute.
Notes
- Bake salmon to an internal temperature of 125-130°F for medium-rare, 135°F for medium, and 145°F for well done.
- Using skin-on salmon helps keep the fillet moist during baking.
- If you prefer a slightly crispier top, you can broil the salmon for the last 1-2 minutes, watching carefully to prevent burning.
- Substitute olive oil for butter for a dairy-free option.
- Serve with fresh lemon wedges and your choice of sides, such as steamed vegetables or rice.
