Description
These Perfect Mini Beef Wellington Bites are elegant and easy appetizers featuring tender beef tenderloin and a savory mushroom filling wrapped in flaky puff pastry, perfect for parties and special occasions.
Ingredients
Scale
Beef and Filling
- 1 lb beef tenderloin, trimmed (alternative: sirloin)
- 1 cup mushrooms, finely chopped
- 2 tbsp Dijon mustard (optional)
Pastry and Garnish
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed (gluten-free puff pastry as substitute)
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- A handful fresh herbs like parsley or thyme, for garnish
Instructions
- Sear the Beef: Sprinkle salt and pepper on the beef tenderloin. Sear it in a hot skillet for about 3-4 minutes per side until it reaches your desired doneness. Let it rest to retain juices.
- Cook Mushrooms: In the same skillet, add the finely chopped mushrooms and cook over medium heat until golden and fragrant, about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Combine Filling: Mix the sautéed mushrooms with the cooked beef in a bowl. Add Dijon mustard for extra flavor and let the mixture cool slightly.
- Prepare Pastry: Lightly flour a surface and roll out the puff pastry. Cut into 3-inch square pieces suitable for wrapping the filling.
- Fill Pastry: Place a spoonful of the beef and mushroom mixture in the center of each pastry square, being careful not to overfill.
- Seal Bites: Brush the corners of each pastry square with the beaten egg wash. Fold over the corners and pinch edges to seal pockets tightly.
- Chill Bites: Arrange the prepared bites on a baking sheet and chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes to help them keep their shape during baking.
- Preheat Oven & Egg Wash: Preheat your oven to 400°F (205°C). Whisk any leftover egg to brush over the pastries for a golden finish.
- Bake: Bake the chilled bites in the preheated oven for approximately 15 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown, filling your kitchen with a delicious aroma.
- Garnish & Serve: Transfer the baked bites to a serving platter and sprinkle with fresh herbs like parsley or thyme for added flavor and visual appeal.

- Ensure the beef is rested after searing to keep it tender and juicy inside the bites.
- Chilling the bites before baking is crucial for maintaining their shape and achieving the perfect puff.
- Use a sharp knife to cut pastry squares cleanly to avoid tearing.
