Description

A quick and flavorful Sardine Salad recipe perfect for a light meal or snack. This easy-to-make salad combines canned sardines with mayo, fresh herbs, and seasonings for a creamy and savory dish that can be served on bread, lettuce wraps, or alongside fresh vegetables.

Ingredients

Scale

Sardine Salad

  • 1 (3.75 ounce) can sardines, drained
  • 1-2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1/2 tablespoon finely chopped red onion
  • 1 teaspoon chopped parsley
  • 1 teaspoon chopped dill
  • 1/8 teaspoon lemon pepper seasoning
  • Hot sauce (optional, to taste)
  • Seasoning salt (to taste)

For Serving

  • Bread, lettuce, tomatoes, or preferred accompaniments

Instructions

  1. Prepare Sardines: Drain the sardines thoroughly and place them in a medium-sized bowl to prepare the base of the salad.
  2. Mix Ingredients: Add the mayonnaise, finely chopped red onion, chopped parsley, chopped dill, lemon pepper seasoning, and optionally hot sauce and seasoning salt to the bowl. Using a fork, mash and mix the ingredients together until well combined but still slightly chunky. Adjust the amounts of mayo and seasonings to suit your taste preferences.
  3. Serve: Serve the sardine salad on bread, as a sandwich filling, or try it in lettuce wraps or with fresh vegetables for a light and nutritious meal.

Notes

  • The amount of mayonnaise can be adjusted for desired creaminess.
  • Fresh herbs like dill and parsley can be substituted with dried if needed; use about one-third the amount.
  • Adding hot sauce is optional and can be adjusted according to your spice tolerance.
  • Seasoning salt can be replaced with regular salt or other preferred seasonings.
  • This salad is best eaten fresh but can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • For added texture and flavor, consider mixing in chopped celery or capers.
