Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper to prepare for baking.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
- Prepare Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, add softened unsalted butter and granulated sugar.
- Cream Butter and Sugar: Use an electric mixer on medium speed to beat butter and sugar together until the mixture becomes light and fluffy.
- Add Egg and Extracts: Crack the large egg into the bowl and add vanilla and almond extracts, continue mixing until fully incorporated.
- Combine Dry and Wet: Slowly add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed just until combined to avoid overmixing.
- Add Milk: Pour in the milk and stir it thoroughly into the dough ensuring a uniform consistency.
- Fold in Candied Petals: Gently fold the candied flower petals into the dough with a spatula to evenly distribute them without crushing.
- Shape Dough Balls: Scoop tablespoon-sized portions and roll them into balls using your hands.
- Arrange on Baking Sheets: Place the dough balls on the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart to allow for spreading.
- Flatten Dough: Slightly flatten each dough ball with your palm or the bottom of a glass to form cookie discs.
- Decorate: Sprinkle a little colored sugar on top of each cookie for a sparkling finish.
- Bake Cookies: Bake in the preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes or until the edges turn golden brown.
- Cool on Sheets: Remove cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes to firm up.
- Cool Completely: Transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely before serving or storing.
Notes
- Ensure butter is softened for easier creaming with the sugar.
- Do not overmix the dough once the flour is added to keep cookies tender.
- Use parchment paper for easy cleanup and to prevent sticking.
- Colored sugar on top adds a festive look and a slight crunch.
- Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
