Ingredients
Scale
Salad Ingredients
- 2 cups fresh strawberries
- 8 ounces fresh mozzarella (bocconcini or block)
- 1 cup fresh basil leaves
Seasoning & Dressing
- Balsamic glaze (to taste)
- Salt (to taste)
- Black pepper (to taste)
- Optional: Honey or maple syrup (for sweetness)
Instructions
- Prepare Strawberries: Gently wash the strawberries under cool water and pat them dry with a clean paper towel. Hull the strawberries by removing the green tops. If the strawberries are small to medium-sized, halve them; for larger strawberries, quarter them.
- Place Strawberries: Put the prepared strawberry pieces in a medium-sized bowl to keep them ready for assembly.
- Prepare Mozzarella: If using bocconcini, drain them from their liquid. If using a block of fresh mozzarella, slice it into rounds roughly matching the thickness of your strawberry pieces for balanced bites.
- Place Mozzarella: Transfer the mozzarella slices or bocconcini to a separate bowl to keep them fresh and easy to grab.
- Prepare Basil: Wash fresh basil leaves thoroughly and pat them dry. Leave them whole or tear into smaller pieces if the leaves are large for easier layering.
- Assemble Salad: On each serving plate, arrange alternating pieces of strawberry and mozzarella slices. Tuck a basil leaf between each strawberry and mozzarella piece to enhance flavor and presentation.
- Season and Dress: Drizzle the arranged salad with balsamic glaze to your liking. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. For a touch of extra sweetness, optionally add a drizzle of honey or maple syrup.
Notes
- Use fresh, ripe strawberries for the best flavor and sweetness.
- Balsamic glaze can be found in most grocery stores or easily homemade by reducing balsamic vinegar until syrupy.
- For a vegan version, substitute mozzarella with a plant-based cheese alternative.
- Serve immediately after assembly to maintain the freshness and texture of the ingredients.
- This salad pairs beautifully with crusty bread or as a side to grilled dishes.
