Description

A zesty and flavorful Tomatillo Sauce, also known as salsa verde, that pairs perfectly with tacos, enchiladas, or as a dipping sauce. Made with roasted tomatillos, jalapeños, and cilantro, this sauce adds a burst of freshness to any dish.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients:

  • 1 pound tomatillos, husked and rinsed
  • 1 medium white onion, quartered
  • 2 cloves garlic, peeled
  • 1–2 jalapeño peppers, stemmed (remove seeds for less heat)

Additional Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup fresh cilantro leaves
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Vegetables: Preheat the oven broiler or heat a skillet. Roast or char the tomatillos, onion, garlic, and jalapeños until softened.
  2. Blend the Ingredients: Transfer the roasted vegetables to a blender. Add cilantro, lime juice, and salt. Blend until smooth.
  3. Adjust Seasoning: Taste and adjust seasoning. Optionally, simmer with olive oil for a richer flavor.

Notes

  • For a spicier sauce, keep the jalapeño seeds.
  • Serrano peppers can be used for more heat.
  • Serve warm or chilled; refrigerate for up to a week.
