Ingredients
Scale
Cake
- 1 box cake mix (any flavor) plus ingredients called for on the box (egg, oil, water)
Decorations
- 1 package M&M’s candies (variety of colors)
- Candy eyeballs
- Chocolate buttercream frosting (enough to frost 12 cupcakes)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare for baking the cupcakes.
- Prepare and bake the cupcakes: Follow the cake mix box instructions to prepare the batter. Pour the batter into a cupcake pan and bake according to the package directions, usually about 15 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Remove from oven and allow the cupcakes to cool completely.
- Frost the cupcakes: Evenly spread a layer of chocolate buttercream frosting on top of each cooled cupcake.
- Create the turkey head: Add an additional spoonful of frosting on one side of each cupcake to form the turkey’s head.
- Add facial features: Press two candy eyeballs onto the frosting head. Place a yellow M&M candy for the nose and a red M&M candy to represent the wattle on each head.
- Decorate the feathers and feet: Arrange rows of different colored M&M candies along the backside of each cupcake to recreate the turkey’s feathers. Finally, press two orange M&M’s at the base of the cupcake to serve as the turkey’s feet.
Notes
- You can use any flavor of cake mix you prefer to customize the taste.
- Be sure the cupcakes are completely cool before frosting to prevent melting.
- Mix M&M colors creatively for a more vibrant turkey feather display.
- Chocolate buttercream frosting can be homemade or store-bought for convenience.
- Substitute candy eyes with mini chocolate chips if unavailable.
