Description

This Warm and Nourishing Longan Tea with Red Dates recipe is a comforting traditional Chinese herbal tea that blends the natural sweetness of dried longans, the rich flavor of red dates, and the nutritional benefits of goji berries and ginger. Perfect for a soothing beverage that promotes wellness, this mildly sweet tea can be adapted with rock sugar to taste and garnished with pine nuts for added texture.

Ingredients

Scale

Tea Ingredients

  • 50 grams Dried Longans (Adds natural sweetness and rich flavor; do not substitute with fresh.)
  • 5 pieces Chinese Red Dates (Jujubes) (Must have seeds removed.)
  • 15 grams Goji Berries (Adds nutritional boost and sweetness.)
  • 1 piece Fresh Ginger (Adjust quantity for preferred spice level.)
  • 4 cups Water (Needed to steep the ingredients.)

Optional Additions

  • Rock Sugar, to taste (Offers additional sweetness.)
  • Pine Nuts, to taste (optional garnish) (Adds crunchy texture when toasted.)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Rinse the dried longans, red dates, goji berries, and fresh ginger under cool running water to remove any impurities and debris, ensuring a clean and fresh-tasting tea.
  2. Combine Ingredients: In a medium pot, add the rinsed dried longans, red dates with seeds removed, goji berries, ginger, and four cups of water.
  3. Boil and Simmer: Place the pot over high heat and bring the mixture to a rolling boil. Then reduce the heat to medium and allow it to simmer gently for 20-25 minutes to extract the flavors and nutrients.
  4. Sweeten Tea: Taste the tea after simmering. If you desire a sweeter tea, gradually add rock sugar to taste, stirring until fully dissolved.
  5. Serve and Garnish: Pour the hot tea into cups. Optionally, garnish with additional goji berries, longan fruit, sliced red dates, and toasted pine nuts for added texture and visual appeal.

Notes

  • Ensure to remove the seeds from the red dates before cooking to avoid bitterness.
  • Adjust the amount of fresh ginger according to your spice preference; more ginger will add warmth and slight pungency.
  • Rock sugar is optional; you can replace it with honey or omit it for a less sweet version.
  • Toasted pine nuts add a delightful crunch but are optional if you want to keep the tea simple.
  • This tea is best enjoyed hot and fresh but can be stored refrigerated for up to 2 days and warmed before serving.
