Description

This Whipped Feta Dip is a creamy, tangy, and delicious appetizer perfect for serving with pita chips, fresh vegetables, or warm pita bread. Made with a blend of feta cheese, cream cheese, sour cream, and fresh lemon juice, this smooth and flavorful dip is quick to prepare and sure to be a crowd-pleaser at any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale

Feta Dip

  • 8 oz feta cheese block (cold, drained and crumbled)
  • 4 oz cream cheese (cold)
  • 1/2 cup thick sour cream (cold)
  • 2 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil (plus more for serving)
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp lemon juice (freshly squeezed, zest reserved)
  • 1 garlic clove (minced or pressed)
  • 1/4 tsp fine sea salt (plus more to taste)

Garnishes and Serving

  • 1-2 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil (for drizzle)
  • Parsley (finely chopped, to garnish)
  • Zest from 1 lemon
  • Red pepper flakes (crushed, to garnish)
  • Freshly ground black pepper (to garnish)
  • Pita bread
  • Pita chips
  • Sliced vegetables (cucumbers, radishes, bell pepper, small tomatoes)

Instructions

  1. Combine ingredients: In the bowl of a food processor fitted with a chopping blade, add the crumbled feta cheese, cold cream cheese, thick sour cream, 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil, freshly squeezed lemon juice, minced garlic, and 1/4 teaspoon sea salt. This combination forms the base of the dip.
  2. Blend until smooth: Process the mixture on high speed for 3-4 minutes, stopping halfway to scrape down the sides of the bowl to ensure everything blends evenly until completely smooth and creamy with no chunks remaining.
  3. Prepare for serving: Transfer the whipped feta mixture into a shallow serving bowl. Using a spoon, swirl the top to create attractive grooves for a decorative presentation.
  4. Garnish and drizzle: Drizzle 1-2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil over the surface of the dip. Sprinkle crushed red pepper flakes, finely chopped parsley, reserved lemon zest, and freshly ground black pepper over the top for added flavor and visual appeal.
  5. Serve: Serve the whipped feta dip immediately accompanied by pita chips, sliced vegetables, or pita bread. Alternatively, cover and refrigerate until ready to serve to maintain freshness.

Notes

  • Ensure the cheeses and sour cream are cold to achieve the best whipping texture.
  • Adjust garlic and lemon juice to taste for more pungency or brightness.
  • The dip can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • For a spicier kick, increase the amount of crushed red pepper flakes in the garnish.
  • Use good quality extra virgin olive oil for the best flavor impact.
